General

Where does Odd Bunch source its produce from?

We partner with Canadian farms, greenhouses, and distributors to rescue surplus and “imperfect” produce that don't meet strict cosmetic standards of retail stores. We prioritize local sourcing as much as we possibly can, ensuring families and individuals across the country receive the freshest fruits and vegetables at fair prices. Our partners across Ontario, BC, Alberta and Quebec—including JP Gladstone Farms in Blenheim, ON, and Shadow Produce Family Farm in Chilliwack, BC—help us deliver quality produce year-round.

What comes in a harvest?

Each week we seek out a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that may be either imperfect in appearance or are part of a surplus harvest. We do this through our network of growers, including farmers greenhouses, as well as partner distributors. With Odd Bunch, you can choose from 7 preset box types. As the produce market is volatile, selections vary week to week, however, you can count of getting your staples like tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers more often than not. We update our Weekly Harvest on our website and socials every Monday at approximately 2:00pm. The Weekly Harvest applies to orders that are shipping that week between Wednesday - Saturday. If you have signed up after the weekly deadline, you will receive the following week's harvest.

Can I customize my harvest?

Yes! You can customize your box by submitting a request on our Substitutions page between Monday at 2:00pm (local time, after the menu has been updated) and 11:55pm Eastern Time on Tuesday. With that said, each box is curated carefully to maximize both variety and our food waste recovery efforts. With our set boxes, you are diverting from 10-15 pounds of food from ending up in landfills or from being used for subpar purposes (in which case, farmers will only be compensated a fraction of what they should for perfectly good produce). We understand if you have allergies or if there are certain items that you are not a fan of - we don't want you to end up wasting any fruits or vegetables either. You are able to make 1 substitution for free each week and additional substitutions cost a small fee. For more details on customizations, please visit our Substitutions page.

What’s inside

How will I know what's coming?

We update our Weekly Harvest on our website and socials every Monday at approximately 2:00pm local time. The Weekly Harvest applies to orders that are shipping that week between Wednesday - Saturday. If you have signed up after the weekly deadline, you will receive the following week's harvest.

Is your produce organic?

Odd Bunch does offer two fully Organic produce boxes. We often rescue surplus Organic produce, so you will see Organic items in our standard boxes too.

Is it locally grown year round?

In Canada, only limited fruits and vegetables are available local year round. We try our best to source locally from farmers and greenhouses for as long as possible, however during the colder months we do source from partners outside of Canada so that we can provide you with fresh produce all year round.

Can I get other groceries with my harvest?

Yes - check out our pantry offerings here!

Will produce items be stored or handled near allergens from the Pantry boxes like peanuts, wheat, dairy, egg, or sesame?

Produce and pantry items do share a warehouse, but every pantry item that could contain those allergens stays in its original, sealed packaging — we don’t open, scoop, repackage, or combine anything by hand. This tends to rule out the kind of contact you might be picturing, like flour dust or a shared scoop touching your produce, so the risk of an allergen reaching your fruits and veggies through our handling is very low.

Pantry

What’s in a Pantry box?

Shelf-stable groceries in a curated box. Think pasta and sauces, sweet and savoury snacks, grains and beans, cooking basics and canned goods. Every item is in there for a reason: a short date, a discontinued run, a packaging misprint, overproduction, stock left behind by a cancelled order, or a local Canadian brand feature with sustainable or health forward values. You can expect 8 items in each box, across 9 different categories. No two weeks will be the same!

Is a Pantry box still part of the rescue mission, or is it just groceries with a markup?

The majority of our pantry items are rescued, same as our produce, just a different shelf. Most of what goes into a Pantry box is short-dated stock, discontinued runs, packaging mishaps, overproduction, or inventory stranded by a cancelled order. The rest comes from Canadian makers whose values line up with ours, and plenty of them are upcycling too. We’ll be continuing to share why an item needed rescue in the first place, so keep your eyes on our socials and email!

How is Pantry pricing set — are these actually better prices than the store?

The Odd Bunch promise of 30-50% off your groceries applies to pantry too. Every item gets checked against multiple grocery chains and online retailers before it goes in a box, and we always want to maximize value for you.

Can I add a Pantry box without committing to anything extra?

Yes. Pantry sits alongside your produce box, not in place of it.

Add it when you want it, skip it when you don’t, and substitute out anything that isn’t for you, exactly the way you already manage produce. Nothing about your produce subscription changes.

Why is there an extra delivery charge when I bundle a Pantry box with my produce box?

Bundling a Pantry box with produce adds a logistical complexity that adds cost. Think dividers, another box, paper wrapping and more time spent making sure the box is packed right. We’d rather charge a maximum of $1.99 and tell you exactly what it’s for than bury it in the price of the box. By adding this fee, it helps keep our model sustainable so we can keep rescuing good food for more Canadians.

Are Pantry items Canadian-made or Canadian-sourced?

We prioritize Canadian-made and Canadian-sourced wherever the rescue opportunity exists, the same as we do with produce. Not everything will be fully Canadian, though: some of our vendors are Canadian brands working with ingredients grown elsewhere, like grains, pulses or coconut, and occasionally a Canadian brand manufactures outside the country.

How can I ensure my dietary preferences and allergies are accommodated through Pantry by Odd Bunch?

If you have a serious food allergy, we’d recommend thinking carefully about whether Pantry by Odd Bunch is right for you. With any dietary preference or allergy, please read every ingredient label before eating.

All pantry items arrive at our warehouse in their original, sealed packaging straight from the manufacturer — we never open, scoop, repackage, or combine anything by hand, so there’s minimal cross contamination from our warehouse handling, but there is a risk from manufacturers.

The biggest risk is packing errors where the wrong item may get sent — we can’t fully rule out human error during packing. If a reaction would be a serious health risk for you or a loved one, that decision has to sit with you — there are the risks of manufacturing cross-contamination and human error, so we want you to have the full picture to make the decision that’s right for you.

We mark pantry items with icons so you can sort at a glance, and we name the brand for each product where available, so you can look up its ingredients and any certifications yourself.

All of our vendors hold food safety certifications, but we don’t require a gluten-free or plant-based certification for an item to be considered — eligibility is based on the ingredient list, not certification testing. If a product is free from gluten and animal products, it’s eligible for the Gluten-free & Plant-based Pantry box.

If you have questions, or want to chat about this more, we’re always here to help — reach out to us at help@oddbunch.ca and we will help however we can.

Delivery

Where do you deliver?

Check if we deliver to your area here.

When do you deliver?

If you have signed up before the weekly order deadline of Tuesday at 11:55pm Eastern Time or 8:55pm Pacific Time, you will receive your order within the same week. If you signed up after the weekly deadline, your first order will be scheduled for the following week.  You can check your delivery day by entering your postal code on our Delivery Area page.

All deliveries are typically made between 12:00pm and 8:00pm local time. The exact time of delivery cannot be specified, as we optimize deliveries within your neighbourhood in order to minimize our carbon emissions and negative environment effects. Our delivery team will provide you with the most accurate delivery window possible on the day of delivery, as long as we have your phone number on file. We will ring your doorbell or knock upon arrival, unless requested otherwise.

Do I have to be home to accept the delivery?

No! We understand that your time is precious and shouldn’t be wasted waiting for your box to arrive. Nonetheless, it makes it easier for our delivery team if you are home and ensures your produce remains at peak freshness. You can also leave a cooler outside to keep your produce as fresh as possible if you like, although this is not required.

Do you deliver to apartments?

Yes, we deliver to apartments, as long as you are able to provide us with the necessary information to complete a delivery in your building. This includes your apartment or unit number, as well as buzzer or entry code, where applicable. If you have additional delivery instructions, you can add them to your account within "Manage Subscription". If we are unable to connect with you or gain access to your building at the time of delivery, your box will be left in the intercom or lobby area and a proof of delivery will be sent to you. We do not take responsibility of any theft that occurs as a result and encourage you to collect your box promptly after the delivery is made.

Billing & next steps

When do I get billed?

When you complete your first purchase, you will be charged as soon as the order is placed. For all following orders, you will be charged every Wednesday for that week's delivery.

What is your billing process like?

All of our orders go through our online website platform, Shopify Payments. We accept all major debit cards, credits cards, Apple Pay, Shop Pay and Google Pay. Your information is kept completely private, encrypted, and safe in our system. Please note that our website is 256 SSL Secure and PCI DSS compliant.

Can I skip deliveries or place a hold?

Of course! If you're going out of town or just want to take a break, you can easily place a delivery on hold by logging into your account and proceeding to "Managing Subscriptions". Please be sure to skip your delivery or make changes to your account before the order cut off time of Tuesday at 11:55pm Eastern Time or 8:55pm Pacific Time.

What happens to my cardboard box?

Food safety guidelines do not allow us to reuse boxes, however, we encourage you to recycle them in your blue bin.

Signing up

Is there any commitment?

Nope! We understand that things come up. Whether you go on vacation for a week or move to another city permanently, there’s no commitment required. If you need to skip a week, simply click “Skip Order” within your account before the order deadline of Tuesday at 11:55pm Eastern Time or 8:55pm Pacific Time. If you need to cancel, you can do so through the "Manage Subscriptions" page of your Odd Bunch account or contact our team at help@oddbunch.ca.

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes, as long as you cancel before the order deadline of Tuesday at 11:55pm Eastern Time or 8:55pm Pacific Time, you won’t be charged for the upcoming week. If you feel there was something wrong with a previous box or encounter any issues whatsoever, we encourage you to contact our team at help@oddbunch.ca, as we would love to make it right before you decide to cancel.

Note that your first order can only be refunded in the form of credits, that is, it can only be rescheduled. If you would like to adjust or cancel your first order, you can get in touch with us at help@oddbunch.ca.

If you have rewards credit in your account, we hold it for 21 days after you cancel, so it’s still there if you come back. After 21 days it expires.

How often do I receive deliveries?

We deliver on a weekly basis by default, however, if you need to skip a week, you can click “Skip Delivery” by proceeding to "Manage Subscriptions" within your Odd Bunch account. We also offer the option to receive your box bi-weekly or even monthly. Please reach out to our team at help@oddbunch.ca and we will get this set up for you.

Referrals

How does the referral program work?

Grab your referral link from your account and share it. Your friend gets $10 off their first box. Once they get that first box, you earn $10 in credit toward your own. You help them save, you save too, and together you keep more good food out of landfills.

Your credit is real dollars, not points — see The Good Bunch rewards page for tiers, milestones and how to auto-apply your credit.

Tariffs & sourcing

Does Odd Bunch import produce from the US?

No. We do not import produce from the US or any other country. However, if Canadian-owned distributors already have US produce in Canada that would otherwise go to waste, we may include it in our boxes.

Will the move to non-US produce be permanent?

We are working to limit the amount of US produce we source, but completely eliminating it would hurt Canadian-owned businesses, increase food waste, and severely impact the variety of fruits and vegetables available throughout year.

Why not only source Canadian-grown produce?

Canadian farms can’t meet year-round demand. Grocery stores still reject produce based on cosmetic standards, regardless of where it’s grown. Our goal is to rescue that produce before it goes to waste and ensure Canadian families and individuals are getting the fruits and vegetables they need at fair prices.

Will prices go up due to US tariffs?

We have maintained stable prices for years and will continue to do so by optimizing our supply chain.

Where can I see what’s in my box?

Check our social media or Our Boxes page! We post weekly updates on what’s inside each box, highlighting the seasonal and local produce included.
